The Parliament has decided to hold a national referendum on the construction of a new nuclear power plant

On 24 October 2012, the Bulgarian Parliament decided to hold a national referendum on the construction of a new nuclear power plant. The referendum will be seeking reply to the specific question: "Should atomic energy be developed in Bulgaria through the building of a new atomic plant?"
The original wording proposed by the initiative committee established to organize the national referendum was: "Should nuclear energy be developed in Bulgaria through the building of a nuclear power plant at the Belene site?".

The debates on the issue took more than 3 hours and were broadcasted live on the Bulgarian National Television and the National Radio.
