"Westinghouse Electric Company" will perform a feasibility study for the construction of a new unit of NPP "Kozloduy". The agreement was signed on 27 August 2012 in the presence of the Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism Delian Dobrev. Five companies took part in the procedure for the selection of a consultant - Worley Parsons, Risk Engineering, Areva by itself and in consortium with Mitsubishi and Westinghouse. The procedure was announced on 7 June.
The final offer from Westinghouse is for EUR 999.500, which is about BGN 1.950 million. Minister Dobrev underlined that the price is 16% lower than the offered one. The next project activities will have to develop procedures for an Evaluation of Environmental Impact and geological exploration.
Yves Brachet, President for Europe of Westinghouse, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the feasibility study. The company has 75 years of experience in technology related to nuclear energy. Relying on experience, we will find the best solution, said Brachet.
The Feasibility Study will include an overview of two possible projects: a project with water-water energetic reactor, which will use the equipment purchased by the client with control systems and fuel management by Westinghouse and Toshiba Corporation of the turbine or project for the construction of an operational water pressure reactor with capacity of 1000-1200MW. Westinghouse has to complete work on the feasibility study by March 2013.
