Bulgaria opened Svilengrad-Kapitan Andreevo high-speed rail line


 

Bulgaria's caretaker Prime Minister Marin Raykov and caretaker Transport Minister Kristiyan Krastev opened on 9 May a high-speed rail line connecting the southern city of Svilengrad to the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing point.

The 17KM route is fully electrified and allows trains to travel at a speed of up to 160km/h.

Under the project, a unique railway bridge over the Maritsa River was build, over 433m long and around 8m wide.

The Svilengrad - Kapitan Andreevo rail line is the first completed railway project financed under the Transport Operational Program, the investment amounting to over BGN 70 M.
