Interconnection Pipeline Bulgaria-Romania will provide security of supply of natural gas for the country. That said Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism Delian Dobrev at the groundbreaking of the Bulgarian section of the pipe. The ceremony, attended by Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, CEO of Bulgartransgaz Cyril Temelkov, Deputy Executive Director of Transgaz Romania Livio Pintikan and other officials, was held on 16th August in Ruse.
The interconnector will connect the gas systems of Bulgaria and Romania and thus will enable us to use on the one hand the Romanian natural gas and on the other, fuel from other countries in Central Europe, said Dobrev. He recalled that in the Romanian part of the deep Black Sea between 40 and 80 billion cubic meters of natural gas have been found, which is significantly higher than consumption in our northern neighbor. Minister Dobrev emphasized that the maximum interconnection capacity is 1.5 billion cubic meters, about half of annual consumption in the country.
I believe that significant quantities of gas and oil will be found in the "Block Khan Asparuh", said during the ceremony Prime Minister Boyko Borisov. In his words it enables real diversification of energy supply for our country.

The Interconnection Pipeline Bulgaria - Romania is conducted jointly by Bulgartransgaz and Romanian gas company Transgas CA. The tube has a total length of 25 km., 15.4 km. of which on Bulgarian territory, 7.5 km. on Romanian and 2.1 km. transition under the bottom of Danube river. The estimated total cost of the project budget was set at 23.8 million euros. Grants amounting to 8.9 million euros under the European Energy Programme for Recovery have been awarded. The section on Bulgarian territory is worth 7.1 million euros. It is funded by 4.4 million euros from the European Energy Programme for Recovery and 2.7 million euros financing by Bulgartransgaz.
