In the fourth quarter of 2011, the average monthly salary of people employed on labour contracts increased to BGN 727 (about EUR 363.50), 4.9 per cent higher than in Q3, Bulgaria’s National Statistics Institute said on 10 February 2012.
The institute was presenting its quarterly survey on employees, working hours, salaries and spending by employers.
According to preliminary data, the number of employees on labour contracts was 2.13 million at the end of December 2011, 2.6 per cent less than at the end of September 2011.
It is this reduction in employment that is the likely reason for the change in the average salary, on the assumption of previous trends of lower-paid employees losing their jobs.
