Projects worth BGN 120 million regarding the Kozloduy International Fund will be financed with European funds. This became clear after the 23rd Assembly of Donors of the Kozloduy International Fund, in which the Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism Delian Dobrev participated. After he presented the position of Bulgaria and defended the need to allocate money for energy efficiency, Minister Dobrev managed to convince the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the donors not to shut down the non-nuclear window.
A total of 66 municipalities received approval for financing of 217 buildings (hospitals, schools and kindergartens). EUR 35.5 million are allocated for energy efficiency. The Assembly of Donors agreed to proceed to a written procedure (unknown up to now in its work), so that the contracts can be signed until the end of the summer and the construction works can start from the next season.
The completion of the projects will increase the energy efficiency, the expenses for electricity will be reduced and the look of the renovated buildings will be improved. Additional EUR 10.5 million were negotiated for the installation of energy efficient street lights in 14 municipalities.
The heating company "Toplofikacia Sofia" will receive EUR 1.5 million funding for a project research for the construction of plant for the utilization of the combustion materials from waste (RDF), which will be produced by the future waste processing factory in Sofia.
For the activities regarding the shutdown of blocks 1-4 of Kozloduy NPP, agreements for around EUR 15 million have been signed.
The Kozloduy International Fund was established to manage the grants provided by the European Union for the reduction of the consequences from the shutdown of blocks 1-4 of Kozloduy NPP.
