Encouraging Energy Efficiency Investments in the tertiary sector through Energy Performance Contracting

Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, 9 Iskar Str., Sofia

Tuesday 29 May 2018, 9.30

The Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Systems Lab of the Technical University of Crete, invite you to participate in a Workshop, organised in the frame of the H2020 Trust EPC South European initiative, with the support of the Association of Balkan Chambers and the Union of Hellenic Chambers of Commerce.

Energy Efficiency is considered as a primary energy resource because it is competitive, cost-effective, and widely available. Increasing energy efficiency is a key priority of the National and European Policies (i.e. Clean Energy Package, Energy Performance of Buildings Directive-EPBD recast) and will benefit the environment, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve energy security, cut energy costs, help alleviate energy poverty and contribute to growth and jobs. However, financial barriers are commonly reported as the main obstacle to realize the full potential of energy efficiency projects. This is especially true for the tertiary sector (hospitality, tourism, healthcare, services, etc.), which often presents a high potential for energy efficiency.

In this context, Trust EPC South aims at encouraging financing of energy efficiency solutions by creating up a framework for standardisation, assessment and benchmarking of such investments, improving trust and confidence in the financing parties. It promotes the adoption of Energy Performance Contracting (EPC) schemes for the realization of such interventions through tailored assessment and decision making tools, capacity building and training activities.

In that perspective the workshop will:

  • Underline the large untapped potential for energy efficiency projects in the buildings of the tertiary sector in Balkans
  • Increase understanding of EPC basics (terminology, process, economic/operational/ environmental benefits, key aspects)
  • Inspire and drive replication of best practices by demonstrating pilot projects
  • Present the Trust EPC South project outcomes, which include a framework for investment assessment and benchmarking, tailored tools and training materials
  • Promote dialogue and synergies between the EPC offer side, the tertiary sector demand side and the financing side
  • Host discussions and exchanges for the market uptake in the Balkans.
