International Monetary Fund: Bulgaria has preserved its hardly achieved macroeconomic and financial stability

Our economic growth and the development of the labour market have stayed in the focus of the International Monetary Fund’s attention at its already closed spring mission in our country.

IMF has acclaimed the intentions of the new government to assure continuity in sustaining the macroeconomic policy, increasing the protective measures directed to the most vulnerable strata of the society and resolving basic structural issues.

IMF’s representatives revealed their prognosis on Bulgaria’s low economic growth in 2013 compared to its lower rate in 2012. The level of the unemployment will probably stay higher than admissible.

At meetings with representatives of the Ministry of Finance issues regarding the poor collectibility and the consequent risks for our treasury thereof. First measures of improving the collectibility cum programmes for encouraging youth employment were presented at the meetings.

The state of the customs was also discussed.

IMF’s recommendations referred to the future continuation of improving our structure and cost effectiveness for the total improving of the quality of public services, and for setting objectives related to the public services within the limited fiscal space.
