The new Wine and Spirits Act came into force as of 16.09.2012. The law is fully harmonized with the EU law, it regulates the whole matter now executed in regulations.
• The following terms are classified and defined: spirit, ethanol and distillate of agricultural origin
• The categories of spirit are listed;
• Mandatory provisions relating to the manufacture and supply of safe spirits are given;
• The rules of production, their raw materials and the requirements for traditional Bulgarian drinks are listed;
• Included are texts governing the import and export of spirits in third countries;
• A register of producers of ethyl alcohol of agricultural origin, distillate and spirits will be maintained.
• The register, the necessary legal documents and forms can be found on the website of the Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism.
