The Secretary General of BCCI Vasil Todorov participates in the 101st session of the International Labour Conference as representatives of employers in the Bulgarian tripartite delegation. The Conference is a high forum of the International Labour Organization (ILO). Each of the 183 Member States is represented by a delegation consisting of government delegates, as well as representatives of the employers’ organizations and labour unions.
The agenda of the largest ILO event, which will take place until 15 June with the participation of over 4000 delegates from 185 countries, includes a number of meetings of the committees dedicated to youth unemployment, level of social protection, fundamental principles and rights at work, etc. BCCI participates in the work of the Committee on Youth Employment. During the session of the Committee information was provided about the size of the youth employment crisis and the main policies that need to be adopted for overcoming it. According to data of the ILO, at present there are more than 75 million unemployed young persons worldwide. Four out of ten unemployed persons are young persons, and the percentage of youth unemployment is three times higher than that of adult unemployment. On the agenda of the session, main policies to overcome this crisis will be discussed:
- Macroeconomic models and growth policies;
- Education and vocational training;
- Labour market policies and institutions responsible for their application;
- Promoting youth entrepreneurship and self-employment;
- International work standards;
- Social protection of young employees;
- Participation of young people in the tripartite dialogue and collective bargaining;
- Good coordination, synchronization and assessment between separate policies.
The session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva was accompanied by the General Assembly of the International Organisation of Employers (IOE). BCCI, as a member of the Organisation took part in the assembly.
The President of the International Organization of Employers Dato Azman Shah Haron gave a speech during the General Assembly and presented three priority axes set by employers in order to overcome the world economic and financial crisis:
- Wide-scale distribution of information about the IOE policies on international level by expanding the cooperation and joint initiatives with the ILO, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, Business Africa, ICC, World Economic Forum, UNICEF, G20, World Bank, World Trade Organization, etc.;
- Strengthening IOE’s support granted to its members – organizations of employers in order to more efficiently defend the IOE policies on a national level;

Supporting enterprises in order for them to successfully operate on the global market. Measures proposed for realization of this goal include focusing the work of the IOE in 4 directions: corporate and human rights; corporate social responsibility; global industrial relations; safety at work and healthy working conditions. For each of the directions forums and events will be organized for companies, research will be carried out, information bulletins will be published, and consultations will be provided to companies by the organizations of employers, members of the IOE.
