Bulgaria is particularly interested in signing the Free Trade Agreement between the EU and Japan. Our country was one of the European countries that supported the opening of negotiations on it. That was pointed out by Ms. Meglena Kuneva, Deputy Prime Minister for coordination of European policies and institutional issues, in a meeting with an official Japanese delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Kentaro Sonoura.
The Deputy Prime Minister stated that the expectations of our country are that the agreement will contribute to the increase of Japanese investments in Bulgaria, as well as to the expansion of Bulgarian export to Japan, mostly in agricultural products. She added that access to EU markets for Japanese goods is reciprocal and is connected with the opening of the Japanese economy for European goods.
In terms of investments in energy, Ms. Kuneva said that Bulgaria is making efforts to improve its legislation and business climate.
Kentaro Sonoura commented as positive the steps that the Bulgarian government is taking to reform the judiciary, saying that its effectiveness and independence are prerequisite for attracting investments in the country.
