The Government approves draft Operational Program Environment 2014-2020


The Council of Ministers approved draft OP Environment 2014-2020, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund, the Cohesion Fund, and the State Budget.

OP Environment is one of the seven operational programs to be implemented during the 2014 – 2020 period. The document sets out investment priorities to be financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the Cohesion Fund during the programming period.  The program’s development is the result of efforts of the thematic working group, comprised of representatives of the administration and a broad range of partners – NGOs, businesses, socio-economic partners, academia, organizations of and for people with disabilities, etc.  

The program focuses on building water supply and sewerage infrastructure and sustainable management of the water sector, achieving compliance with the waste management hierarchy, supporting implementation the National Prioritized Action Framework for NATURA 2000, flood and landslides risk prevention and management, improving air quality. Funding priorities correspond to Europe 2020 objectives, as well as to the main national and European cross-sectoral and sectoral strategic documents, and take into account the comments of the European Commission.

OP Environment has a total budget of EUR 1,770,381,345, of which 1,504,824,141 in European financing and 265,557,204 in national financing, distributed among operational axes as follows:

  • Priority Axis 1 Water – EUR 1,196;
  • Priority Axis 2 Waste – EUR 288 million;
  • Priority Axis 3 NATURA 2000 and Biodiversity – EUR 101 million
  • Priority Axis 4 Flood and Landslides Risk Prevention and Management – EUR 78.5 million
  • Priority Axis 5 Improvement of Ambient Air Quality – EUR 59 million
  • Priority Axis 6 Technical Assistance – EUR47.5 million.
