Bulgaria applies more products to receive recognition in the EU as "Gornooryahovski flat sausage"

The first protected Bulgarian geographical indication is "Gornooryahovski flat sausage" /sudzuk/ .

"We should have some self-esteem as a nation, which makes good things. We start with the Gornooryahovski Sudzhuk . We also plan to protect the  other traditional local products. We have a firm intention to protect and grape brandy, too "said Minister Naydenov.

The Gornooryahovski Sudzhuk will be produced only by three companies in Bulgaria, while the rest may produce other types of Sudzhuk, such as Tarnovski Sudzhuk. Bulgarian Food Safety Agency is in charge of controlling the right usage of the name on the market and among producers in accordance with the national legislation and  will guarantee that the Gornooryahovski Sudzhuk is not fake.

A pplications for protected geographical indications have been submitted  for other traditional Bulgarian products including jerky, filet "Elena" roll "Trapezitsa" neck "Trakia" and "Panagyurska" flat sausage.
