The President of BCCI held a working meeting with EU’s Chief Brexit Negotiator Michel Barnier
Michel Barnier, European Commission’s Chief Brexit Negotiator is on a working visit to Bulgaria. The meeting with Michel Barnier was held at the invitation of the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria. He and his team presented the current status of the Brexit negotiations. A day before his visit to Bulgaria, the chief negotiator said that some of the agreements with the United Kingdom would have to be ratified by the national and some by the regional parliaments of the EU member-states and in this regard there should be public debates.
“According to BCCI’s surveys, only 3% of Bulgarian companies will be affected if the United Kingdom leaves the European Union,” said the President of BCCI Tsvetan Simeonov during the meeting. He expressed his satisfaction with the fact that the European Commission informs our country in due course of the progress of the Brexit negotiations and stressed that he expects this process to continue. The President of BCCI confirmed the Chamber’s readiness for cooperation. “In short terms, if surveys among the Bulgarian businesses are needed, the economic analysts of the Chamber are available to conduct and analyse the results of quick polls among entrepreneurs,” Tsvetan Simeonov concluded.
The programme of Michel Barnier in Bulgaria included meetings with the Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, the Deputy Prime Minister for Judicial Reform and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva, and the Minister for the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU Lilyana Pavlova.
