A large business delegation from the Iraqi Kurdistan region visited BCCI

A large business delegation from the Iraqi Kurdistan region is visiting Bulgaria this week. The delegation visited the cities of Plovdiv, Haskovo and Sofia.

The Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized one of the meetings in the capital, together with b2b talks with Bulgarian companies. The delegation is in the country at the invitation of the Haskovo Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

In his opening speech, BCCI’s Secretary General Vasil Todorov stressed that the Chamber already has traditional relations with the Erbil Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Kurdistan Chamber of Commerce, and the Union of Importers and Exporters of Iraqi Kurdistan, which date back to 2011.

Vasil Todorov reminded the participants in the forum that two weeks ago BCCI hosted a Bulgarian – Iraqi Business Forum, organized in cooperation with the Baghdad Chamber of Commerce. During the forum, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed, which envisages renewing and strengthening of the cooperation between the chambers of commerce of both countries in order to facilitate business contacts. Bulgarian companies have expressed interest in trade and investment activities with partners from Iraqi Kurdistan in the sectors: trade, construction, oil industry, food industry, agriculture, and industrial equipment, Todorov said.

The head of the Iraqi delegation Attaa Mohammed Noori, Deputy President of the Union of Importers and Exporters of Iraqi Kurdistan, presented the economic potential of his region. He said that consumers in the Eastern countries are sure of the good quality of Bulgarian goods and that is why there is interest in them at the Iraqi Kurdistan market. The companies in the delegation represented the business communities from the cities of Karkuk and Duhok.

After the official opening of the forum, many talks were held between companies from both countries working in the sectors: agriculture, food industry, IT, machine-building, trade, cosmetics, mineral waters, etc.
