Bulgarian Battery Production for Energy Storage for Clean Technologies Achieves Strategic Status under European Initiative
The Minister of Economy and Industry Peter Dilov held a meeting with Aleksandar Rangelov, Executive Director of the company that developed a Bulgarian project, which obtained strategic status under the Regulation for the development of technologies with net zero emissions (Net-Zero Industry Act (NZIA) in the EU. The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Nevena Lazarova. The Ministry of Economy and Industry coordinates the implementation of the Regulation for the development of net zero emission technologies in Bulgaria.
The innovative project is already registered in the public register of strategic projects of the European Commission. The project “BG EXERON X-BESS” in the field of batteries and technologies for energy storage and one of its goals is to support energy independence throughout Europe.
The production of battery energy storage technologies is outlined in the national roadmap for sustainable energy production in Bulgaria, with a full focus on the objectives set out in the Regulation for secure and sustainable supplies of net zero emission technologies, expanding production capacities and their supply chains.
Minister Dilov stated that work is actively underway to improve energy efficiency and security of supply for Bulgarian industry, with particular attention to net zero emission technologies.
“The project is a major step towards including Bulgaria among European producers of ecological technologies and the application of high-tech solutions to overcome climate change,” Minister Dilov emphasized.
In his words, the expectations are that this will contribute to increasing the security of supply and contribute to the development of the energy storage industry in Bulgaria and Europe.
“We believe that this project has justly taken a key place in the clean technology value chain. This is a step forward for Bulgaria and our participation in European and global industry for energy transformation,” Dilov underlined.
BG EXERON X-BESS is a system for electric energy storage in batteries, developed based on patented technology by International Power Supply AD (IPS). The production will be carried out in the high-tech industrial park “Hemus”, Kremikovtsi Region, Sofia. The project envisages creating over 65 new jobs by the end of 2025, with a significant percentage of these being with high added value – 25% in the field of research and engineering, and 60% technical specialists. The production is expected to be carried out entirely in the country.
