Bulgaria's Annual Inflation at 5% in December 2025, National Statistical Institute Reports


In December 2025, monthly inflation in Bulgaria measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 0.1%, and annual inflation was 5%. Average annual inflation for the period January 2025 to December 2025 compared with January 2024 to December 2024 was 4.6%, according to data from the National Statistical Institute (NSI).

Measured by the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), monthly inflation in Bulgaria in December 2025 was 0.1%, and annual inflation stood at 3.5%. Average annual inflation for January 2025 to December 2025 compared with January 2024 to December 2024 was 3.5%.

Back in December 2024, monthly inflation measured by the CPI was 0.4%, and annual inflation was 2.2%. Average annual inflation measured by the HICP for January 2024 to December 2024 compared with January 2023 to December 2023 was 2.6%, the NSI said.

Accumulated inflation

Accumulated inflation in Bulgaria measured by the CPI for December 2025 compared with December 2022 was 12.3%, and for December 2025 compared with December 2020 it was 41.4%.

Annual inflation has now been in single digits for 31 months and continues to trend downwards, according to the NSI. In June 2023 it fell into single digits (8.7%) for the first time since January 2022, when it was 9.1%. Annual inflation (CPI) peaked at 18.7% in September 2022.

Average annual HICP values

Average annual inflation in Bulgaria followed a steady downward trend throughout 2024. The year began at 7.8% in January 2024, and by December 2024 average annual inflation fell to 2.6%, remaining at that level in January 2025 and February 2025. In March, April and May 2025 it stood at 2.7%, rising slightly to 2.8% in June 2025. It remained at 2.8% in July 2025, then in August 2025 increased marginally again to 2.9%. In September it reached 3.1%, in October 3.3% and in November 3.4%, the NSI said.

Prices of goods and services

In December 2025 compared with November 2025, prices of goods and services fell in the following consumer groups: Clothing and footwear down 2.3%; Communications down 0.9%; and Miscellaneous goods and services down 0.1%.

Prices rose in the following groups: Recreation and culture up 2.2%; Transport up 0.8%; Restaurants and hotels up 0.4%; Alcoholic beverages and tobacco up 0.3%; Education up 0.1%; Furniture, household goods and routine household maintenance up 0.1%; and Health up 0.1%.

Prices remained unchanged in the groups: Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels; and Food and non-alcoholic beverages.
