Bulgaria’s exports in January – February 2026 down 0.6%, imports up 4% y/y


Bulgaria’s overall foreign trade balance was negative in the period January-February 2026, amounting to EUR 1.856 billion, National Statistical Institute data published here on April 14 show. In February, the overall foreign trade balance was also negative, at EUR 810.7 million.

A reference in the NSI indicates that the balance in the same period of 2025 was also negative, at EUR 1.505 billion (BGN 2.943 billion), as well as in February 2025 – EUR 495.5 million (BGN 969.1 million).

In the period January – February 2026, Bulgaria exported goods worth a total of EUR 6.874 billion, which is 0.6% less compared with the same period of 2025. In February 2026, total exports amounted to EUR 3.547 billion, increasing by 0.1% compared with the same month of the previous year. Over the same period, imports into the country totalled EUR 8.730 billion (at Cost, Insurance and Freight prices), or 4% more compared with the same period of 2025. In February 2026, total imports of goods increased by 8.2% compared with the same month of the previous year, reaching EUR 4.357 billion.

In the period January–February 2026, exports of goods from Bulgaria to third countries decreased by 8.5% compared with the same period of 2025, amounting to EUR 2.222 billion. Bulgaria’s main trading partners were Turkiye, Serbia, the United Kingdom, the United States, North Macedonia, China and Ukraine, which accounted for 50.3% of exports to third countries. In February 2026, exports of goods from Bulgaria to third countries decreased by 8% compared with the same month of the previous year, totalling EUR 1.210 billion. Imports of goods into Bulgaria from third countries in the period January–February 2026 increased by 10% compared with the same period of 2025, reaching EUR 3.882 billion (at CIF prices). The largest value of goods imported was from Turkiye, China, Brazil and Kazakhstan. In February 2026, imports of goods into Bulgaria from third countries increased by 15.8% compared with the same month of the previous year, amounting to EUR 1.837 billion.
