Central Bank, Finance Ministry create euro changeover FAQ page

The Bulgarian Finance Ministry and the central bank have both added a euro changeover FAQ page to their websites. There they answer questions including what is the eurozone; what countries are part of it; what the European Central Bank does; what are the criteria for adoption of the euro; who is in charge of Bulgaria's preparation for the changeover; what are the advantages of the euro; what will happen during the transition period.

The euro offers many benefits to citizens, businesses and the economies of the countries that use it, the central bank and the Finance Ministry say. Among those are easy price comparisons between euro area Member States, which increases competition between businesses, thereby benefiting consumers; price stability; trading become easier, cheaper and safer for businesses in the euro area; enhanced economic stability and growth; better integration and improved efficiency of financial markets; greater influence in the global economy through the use of the world's second mostly used reserve currency after the US dollar; a symbol of European identity.

Comprehensive information on the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria will be available on a website which will be operational from the end of March 2023 and will be the main institutional channel for informing citizens and businesses in Bulgaria about the process. Information will also be available on a special free telephone line to be opened at a later stage. A mobile application is also planned to be developed and its function will be to inform and enable the calculation of the price of goods and services between lev and euro.
