Bulgarian-Chinese Trade and Economic Relations – Achievements and Future Projects

Andrey Tehov, the Ambassador of Bulgaria in China, visited the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and talked with its President Tsvetan Simeonov. The main topic of the conversation were the results from the last Meeting of the Bulgarian-Chinese Intergovernmental Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation. The Commission is a key mechanism for fostering the trade and business relations between Bulgaria and China. The 18th Session of the Commission was held in September 2025 in Sofia, focusing on making bilateral relations more active, cooperation within the industrial zones and on encouraging investments. The Forum, organised by the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the occasion of the Session, attracted over 120 participants from both countries and put emphasis on the opportunities for investments in high-potential sectors — green technologies, energy efficiency, tourism, logistics and transport connectivity.

The main goal of the Commission was to make the bilateral trade and economic relations more active, to overcome the imbalance in trade and encourage the export of Bulgarian goods to China.

Mr Simeonov underlined the importance of the already traditional visits of BCCI members and partners in China with the purpose of training in how to trade with the eastern country. This year, the training will take place in the autumn. It is organised by the Chinese Embassy in Sofia, the Center for International Economic Cooperation of Fujian Province and BCCI. The Bulgarian Embassy in Beijing is an active partner in making the visits.

The BCCI commitment to work to increase the security of trade between the two countries was also discussed, and the Chamber, together with ICAP Bulgaria, can issue reference documents to Bulgarian companies.

The interlocutors really appreciated the active cooperation among BCCI, the Bulgarian Embassy in China and the Trade and Economic Affairs Offices in Beijing and Shanghai.
