A delegation of the Committee on Budgetary Affairs of the European Parliament (EP), which was on a visit to Bulgaria from 28th to 30th October 2013 in connection with the process of decommissioning nuclear power plants shut down in NPP "Kozloduy" said the functions and obligations of the operator in the operation of nuclear power – NPP "Kozloduy" and the operator of decommissioning – SE RAW, are already distinct, which ensures that projects are managed in the fairest terms of financing.
Head of Delegation of the European Parliament was Ingeborg Gresle. The group was accompanied by Bulgarian MEP Ivailo Kalfin. A central item to the work of the mission was to visit the site of the 440 - MW units of NPP "Kozloduy", which took place in one day. During the visit at Kozloduy MEPs held a working meeting with the Board, the management team and experts from the State Enterprise "Radioactive Waste" (SE RAW), which operates the removal process. The business work meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Economy and Energy Ivan Ayolov.
To the members of the Budget Committee was presented the decommissioning plan under the National Strategy for the management of spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste, and the status of decommissioning projects financed by the European Union (EU). In NPP the representatives of the European Parliament visited the engine room of 1-4 blocks to learn about real course of the process of decommissioning the conventional part of them. According to the insights of the members of the delegation in the engine room of 1-4, dismantling activities are carried out professionally and responsibly. They wish the program included a visit to a dry storage of spent nuclear fuel, the construction of which was financed with funds from the European Union.
In connection with the theme of the visit the members of the delegation also held additional meetings at the Ministry of Economy and Energy, the National Audit Office and the National Assembly. At the end of the visit, they told reporters their summarized impressions of the mission took place in Bulgaria. Mrs. Gresle expressed her satisfaction of the work done during the three days of work, thanked for the assistance received and resumed the key information obtained for projects to be implemented in connection with the removal.
