An average of 32 people compete for 1 vacancy in the private sector, the most intense competition being in Kardzhali, and the weakest in Sofia, according to Employment Agency data.
According to Employment Agency statistics, a total of 400 943 people were registered as unemployed in February, while the vacancies declared by the business sector were 12 460.
However, in many of the regions, the people looking for jobs lacked the necessary qualifications and could not get a job for years.
The most intense competition was in the Southern city of Kardzhali, where there were 71 unemployed per vacancy. The most in-demand jobs in Karzdhali were in the spheres of manufacturing, education, trade and healthcare.
The highest unemployment rate, at 23.3%, was registered in the poorest city in Bulgaria, Vidin. At the beginning of April, there were announcements for 37 vacancies at the local unit of the Employment Agency.
In the Northwestern region, the poorest EU region, the state is the largest employer, providing temporary employment to the population in the region. As regards permanent employment, the largest number of vacancies were for nurses, teachers, tailors and manufacturing workers.
The weakest competition was registered in Sofia, where there were an average of 13 unemployed per vacancy.
The highest demand in Sofia was for financiers, insurance agents, shop assistants and real estate agents.
