There is a progress in the negotiations regarding the possibility of construction of seventh unit at NPP ”Kozloduy”


On 13th May, during the meeting of the Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski with the President and Chief Executive Director of Westinghouse, Danny Roderick at the Council of Ministers, a negotiation progress was reported regarding the possibility of seventh unit construction at NPP ”Kozloduy” with pressurized water nuclear reactor, using the technology AP1000.

Within the conversation, where the Minister of Economy and Energy Dragomir Stoynev also took part, the course of work was discussed regarding defining and specifying the parameters of the potential project.

In December 2013, the Council of Ministers authorized the Minister of Economy and Energy to allow “Bulgarian Energy Holding” EAD to sign an agreement for preliminary work start on coordination the parameters of a potential project for seventh unit construction at NPP ”Kozloduy”.

Minister Stoynev brought forward the desire the project to be realized under the best possible conditions for Bulgaria. Further discussions at an expert level are to be conducted.

Mr. Roderick highlighted that it is of high importance a new technology and operation cycle to be ensured, so that Bulgaria to be a model for nuclear technology. He mentioned that there are over 100 Bulgarian companies having expressed interest in participation in the project.

During the meeting the accent was placed on the need to observe the approach of transparency and openness.
