The European Parliament has positively assessed the activities for decommissioning of suspended nuclear power units in Bulgaria

At a session of the Committee on Budgetary Affairs of the European Parliament (EP), the report on the visit to Bulgaria by a delegation of the committee was presented. The visit, which took place within the period of 28 - 30 October 2013, was related to the process of decommissioning of suspended nuclear power units within the grant funding of some activities with the resources provided by the European Union (EU). During the session, Ingeborg Gressle, the Head of the Mission of the European Parliament in Bulgaria, presented a report containing the final conclusions. She expressed an overall positive assessment of the delegation's visit to Bulgaria and shared results from the meetings held.

Georgios Stavrakakis, a member of the delegation visited Bulgaria, participated in the discussion. He highlighted that the Bulgarian authorities had provided comprehensive responses to the additional questions raised by the Commission. According to the Greek representative, there is a complete transparence with regard to the reporting, monitoring and evaluation of the decommissioning of the suspended nuclear power units. The EU  Commissioner Paul Rubig assessed  the report of  Ingeborg Gressle as a very well balanced and adequately reflecting  the situation in Bulgaria, where the process of decommissioning is obviously well managed . He noted that the consultants to the project management units were completely integrated in the process.
