EC approves Bulgarian Rose Oil for protected geographical indication

The European Commission has approved the adding of a new Bulgarian product to the register of protected geographical indications.

The Bulgarian Rose Oil is an essential oil, produced via the distillation of the flowers of Rosa Damascena. It takes some 3,500 kg of rose flowers to receive 1 kg of rose oil. The flowers, and only open ones are picked up in the early morning hours. Rosa Damascena is traditionally grown in Central Bulgaria’s Rose Valley.

The name of origin will be added to the list of over 1,200 European products protected.
