The National Assembly adopted at first reading amendments to the Bulgarian Citizenship Act, which provide for the elimination of the possibility of obtaining Bulgarian citizenship through investments. The Parliament reviewed at first reading three draft amendments to the Bulgarian Citizenship Act.
The MPs unanimously adopted the bill submitted by the Council of Ministers.
During the debate on the amendments in plenary, the Minister of Justice Nadezhda Yordanova called on the MPs to support the Council of Ministers' bill. She pointed out that eliminating the possibility of obtaining Bulgarian citizenship through investments will increase the trust of our partners. “It became clear from the reasoning of the Committee on Constitutional and Legal Affairs that the EC raised this issue in 2019, as well as in 2021,” added the Minister of Justice.
