Wine and tourism on the Balkans are to be presented at the Second Wine Festival and Competition in Sofia in May

Sixty wineries are expected to participate this year in the Balkan Wine Festival and approximately 100 participants - in the Wine Competition.

At a press conference BCCI’s President Tsvetan Simeonov emphasized that the Chamber is enthusiastic about the concept of concerted actions of wine- producers and traders from the Balkan countries and underlined that open trade is among the goals targeted by global business. Therefore, BCCI considers this festival as a demonstration project of the necessity to consolidate the potential of the Balkan economies.

The Balkans occupy the fifth place in the world when jointly entering the international markets as manufacturers and exporters of wine after France, Italy, Spain and the USA. Galina Niforu, founder and director of the Balkan Wine Festival and Competition, said that despite the crisis wine production in Bulgaria is on the rise. “Canada, India and Singapore show interest in Bulgarian wine”, she added and reiterated her determination to find a market for Bulgarian wine in the U.S.A., Japan and Hong Kong as well.
