The allocations from the International Fund "Kozloduy" (IFK) has a major contribution to the Bulgarian Energy and Economy. This said the Minister of Economy and Energy Dragomir Stoynev during a ceremony for the signing of agreements to finance two high priority projects - the construction of a national repository for the disposal of intermediate and intermediate level radioactive waste and renovation and modernization of the district heating system of the Sofia city. They will help to increase the quality of district heating services for local residents and for implementation by Bulgaria to the criteria of the International Atomic Energy Agency for the sustainable management of radioactive waste, said Stoynev. In his words, the implementation of the two projects will add another step in our successful relationship with IFK.
In the nuclear window of an International Fund "Kozloduy" was signed an agreement for the construction of the first stage of the National Repository for low and intermediate level radioactive waste. Beneficiary of the project, which is funded entirely by the IFK, is the state enterprise "Radioactive Waste". In the new repository will be buried radioactive waste from 1-4 of NPP "Kozloduy". It is envisaged the construction of the first phase of the repository to be completed by the end of 2015. According to the chief executive of state-owned enterprise "Radioactive Waste" Dilian Petrov, with the receipt of the funds under the IFK begins the actual construction of the national repository.
In the other signed agreement, which relates to non-nuclear window of the fund is financed a project for renovation and modernization of the production and transmission of energy in the district heating system of the city. Beneficiary "Sofia Heating Company" EAD. The total cost of the project is EUR 41.9 million, of which EUR 21.5 million - from IFK. The modernization and renewal of the facilities of the company will increase the security of energy supply in the capital, said Stoynev. This will lead to increasing the energy efficiency of the service by reducing the losses in the distribution network and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, he said. The draft should be completed by the end of 2017. By the words of the Executive Director of "Sofia Heating Company" Stoyan Tsvetanov, whit the realization of this project the company will meet the requirements of the European Commission.
According to the representative of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Vince Novak, the realization of projects "Radioactive Waste" and "Sofia Heating Company" is extremely important. He expressed his confidence that the active cooperation between the Bulgarian authorities and the International Fund "Kozloduy" will continue.
