The assessment criteria and the acquisition of category "Green Star" discussed the Deputy Minister of Economy and Energy Branimir Botev at a meeting in Varna. The discussion was attended by representatives of the Association of Restaurants and Hotels in the city, the management of "St. Constantine and Elena" resort and the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Burhan Abazov.
This idea provides a categorization of their tourist sites that offer organic produce to receive a green colored star. The "Green Star" will identify establishments that use eco, organic or natural products and will give additional credibility to attract more customers, said Deputy Minister Botev.
According to him, this will help the Bulgarian producers to grow natural fruits and vegetables and the tourism will become a showcase of this production. The initiative is part of the five measures to be undertaken in the field of tourism. For it’s performance the Ministry of Economy and Energy will partner with Bulgarian tourist industry and national association "Made in Bulgaria". And possibilities for the tourism to be opened as soon as possible to natural products and to start offering them to the foreign tourists, are sought.
The meeting discussed several criteria that will have to meet the production proposed in the tourist sites. According to the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Burhan Abazov the fruits and vegetables should be locally produced and the meat products – from free-range animals. He added that a wider sense of "fresh products" can be used in, since the requirements for organic products are extremely heavy and beyond the reach of all Bulgarian manufacturers.
It has envisaged the introduction of zoning, for example determining of perimeter for delivery to be maximum of 150 km. It is possible for the state to support the opening of the markets of agricultural products in the resorts as well.
