Wizz Air will open a new base in Bratislava, Slovakia, from where it will launch new direct services to Plovdiv and Varna in Bulgaria, the company's press centre said on 13 August.
Regular flights on the new routes will begin on November 15 and will be operated year-round on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. They will position Bulgaria even more significantly on the map of Central Europe, Wizz Air's Corporate Sustainability and Communications Manager Anastasia Novak emphasized.
The upcoming opening of the Bratislava - Plovdiv service was first announced by Plovdiv Mayor Kostadin Dimitrov who said it will facilitate travel for Plovdiv residents, but also open up new opportunities for business, cultural exchange and tourism between Bulgaria and Slovakia. The mayor also said that the development of Plovdiv Airport remains a priority for the local administration, and confirmed that the Plovdiv Airport Development Fund aims to increase the number of destinations available from the airport.
