Bulgarian delegation at the Global Forum GS1 in Brussels

This week Brussels hosted the Global Forum GS1, dedicated to the 40th Anniversary of the establishment of the organisation. More than 600 representatives of 94 countries of the world participated in the forum. The Bulgarian delegation was led by Mr. Tsvetan Simeonov, President of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Chairman of the GS1 Bulgaria Board, including members of the GS1 Bulgaria Board and experts from GS1 Bulgaria.

The new strategy of the organisation and the main areas for its further development were presented at the forum, namely the retail trade and the increasing digitalisation, healthcare, transportation and logistics, textiles, cosmetics and the financial sector. Particular attention is paid to the process of implementing new standards along with the participation of businesses and experts in this field.

Within the activities of the Global GS1 Organisation a platform “GS1 Source of Information” (GS1 Source) has been developed, which is eligible in meeting the requirements of the EU Regulation №1169/2011 for the provision of food information, such as contents, allergens, nutrition values etc. Standards provided by GS1 in this direction ensure data quality.

The work group on healthcare paid a special attention to the unique identification of medical devices and the rules of the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA), published in September 2013.

Summarizing the results of the conference, the President of the International Organisation GS1, Mr. Miguel Lopera, underlined that it is oriented towards the fulfillment of its non-profit mission. GS1 is a neutral leader, enabling communities to develop and implement global standards providing the tools, trust and confidence needed to achieve the objectives set.
