As of 20th October 2015, the updated version of the mobile application BG Barcode is available for all users of Android devices. The application allows by scanning the barcode on the product to see information about it provided that it has been uploaded by the product’s manufacturer/distributor in GS1 Bulgaria’s Product Catalogue. The data includes ingredients and description of the product, additional instructions, information about the manufacturer/distributor, allergens, nutritional values, photos, etc. Information about food products complies with the requirements of Regulation (EU) 1169/2011.
The mobile application allows users to make their own consumer profiles, where each user can specify what foods and ingredients they have intolerance to. If a certain product contains one of the specified allergens, the applications alerts the user.
The new version of the app provides easier access to information about foreign barcodes because it connects automatically to the international register GEPIR and there is no need of additional steps for this.
The updated version will soon be available through the mobile application for iOS devices.
