BCCI presented the investment environment in Bulgaria to over 150 Turkish companies

An international forum dedicated to the investment environment in Bulgaria, organized by the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey (DEIK) and the World Turkish Business Council (DTİK) was held in Sofia. The event was opened by Osman Ak, Chairman of DEIK and the Turkish-Bulgarian Business Council. The Minister of Economy of the Republic of Bulgaria Emil Karanikolov and H.E. Dr. Hasan Ulusoy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Bulgaria also took part in the opening session of the forum.

Minister Karanikolov said that Turkish investments in Bulgaria amounted to nearly EUR 1 billion and only in the first half of 2019 Turkish companies invested EUR 23 million in Bulgaria. The Minister of Economy emphasized Bulgaria’s advantages as an investment destination and pointed out that in recent years there has been stable economic growth, and that the country is a leader in the region in terms of financial stability, macroeconomic development and credit rating.

Ambassador Ulusoy addressed the participants in the meeting and pointed out that Bulgaria is a strong partner of Turkey – both because of the good neighbourly relations and because of the country’s EU membership.

Vasil Todorov, Secretary General of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, participated in the discussion part of the forum. Talking about the investment environment in the country - advantages and difficulties, he drew attention to the positive expectations of the Bulgarian business for the development of the economic environment in our country, referring to a recent survey of the Association of the European Chambers of Commerce and Industry (EUROCHAMBRES), in which BCCI is traditionally involved.

Against the backdrop of favourable conditions guaranteed by the stable economic, financial and political environment in Bulgaria, the creation of new business partnerships and attracting investments from Turkey are among the main goals of the business organizations from both countries, Vasil Todorov stressed. He discussed a number of topics and answered multiple questions asked by the participants in a forum, which was attended by more than 150 representatives of the business community.
