Dronamics, the Bulgaria-based aerospace company developing long-range unmanned cargo aircraft, has announced its entry into the Japanese market alongside a strategic investment from Japan’s Asia Air Survey, a leading geospatial information and aerial surveying firm listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The partnership will also see the creation of a new local entity, Dronamics Japan Holdings Co., Ltd., marking a significant step in the company’s expansion into Asia, Dronamics said in a press release on April 20.

Under the agreement, the two companies plan to collaborate on deploying Dronamics’ drone technology across a range of applications in Japan and beyond, including aerial surveying, disaster prevention, civil protection, and infrastructure monitoring.

Founded in 1954, Asia Air Survey is a major player in geospatial services, providing mapping, environmental consulting, disaster management support, and urban planning solutions. The company has operations in more than 30 countries and has developed technologies such as analytical aerial triangulation systems used in large-scale surveying projects.

Dronamics, headquartered in Sofia, develops the Black Swan unmanned aircraft system, a long-range cargo drone designed for logistics and specialized missions. The company says its platform can carry up to 350 kilograms over distances of 2,500 kilometres, targeting applications from freight transport to emergency response.

Asia Air Survey described the investment as an opportunity to combine its geospatial expertise with Dronamics’ unmanned aviation technology to create new services and improve efficiency in data collection and disaster response.

Dronamics CEO Svilen Rangelov is quoted as saying that the partnership "validates the company’s technology" and opens access to what he described as "a multi-billion-dollar opportunity in Japan", particularly in logistics and disaster relief. He added that unmanned systems will play a key role in the next phase of industrial development.

The companies also highlighted Japan’s strong focus on technological innovation and manufacturing standards as a key factor in the collaboration, with both sides expressing interest in expanding their joint projects internationally.
