Bulgaria has traditionally been among the top ten main trading partners of Georgia. The past year marked an increase of nearly ¼ in bilateral trade, reaching USD 826 million. This became clear during a meeting between the Minister of Economy and Industry Nikola Stojanov and the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Bulgaria H.E. Otar Berdzenishvili.
"I believe that with joint efforts we will continue to develop our trade relations and enrich the structure of trade between the two countries," Minister Stojanov said. He pointed out that a selection procedure for a commercial attaché in Tbilisi is currently underway, as the mandate of the current TEAO expires in the summer. ‘It is especially important for Bulgaria to have trade representatives in countries like Georgia because they are the country’s immediate link with foreign business,’ Nikola Stojanov explained.
During the meeting the sides discussed the possibilities for the implementation of more joint projects between the two Black Sea countries, which will contribute to deepening the economic relations. Ambassador Berdzenishvili stressed the need for better connectivity, which is a key prerequisite for expanding trade and investment between the two countries.
Among the topics of discussion were the development of relations in the light of current regional issues, the improvement of digital connectivity networks and the facilitation of business ties between the two countries.
