Bulgaria's Annual Inflation Slows to 5.3% in June, Remains Second Highest in Euro Area


Bulgaria's annual inflation slowed to 5.3% in June, down from 6.3% in May, but remained the second highest in the euro area after Lithuania, according to Eurostat's flash estimate released on July 1.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices in Bulgaria fell by 0.4% in June after increasing by 0.3% in May.

Eurostat also estimated that annual inflation in the euro area eased to 2.8% in June from 3.2% in May, marking the first decline after four consecutive months of increases. Consumer prices in the euro area fell by 0.1% month on month, the first monthly decline since January.

According to the National Statistical Institute's flash estimate published on Tuesday, consumer prices in Bulgaria, measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), are expected to decline by 0.8% month on month in June, while annual inflation is projected to slow to 5.6%.
