Two-way traffic was fully restored on the Bulgarian section of the Danube Bridge near Ruse on June 30 after nearly two years of major rehabilitation.

With the completion of the construction works on the roadway at the beginning of the summer, the travel of all drivers and Romanian tourists who have chosen the resorts on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast for their vacation will be facilitated.

The project included replacing road panels, building new sidewalks, installing new safety barriers, restoring railings and lighting, repairing the bridge's substructure and columns, and upgrading other key elements. The remaining work, including renewing the anti-corrosion coating on the steel structure beneath the roadway, will be completed during the summer without affecting traffic.

The repair of 1,057 km of the Danube Bridge on Bulgarian territory began on July 10, 2024, with construction activities being carried out in 6 stages, with vehicles gradually passing in both directions in the lane where work is not being done. The route on Bulgarian territory of the Danube Bridge is part of road I-2. Since its commissioning 70 years ago, in 1954, no major repairs have been carried out.
