Over BGN 136 million will be invested in the first metro diameter in Sofia

Another BGN 136 million under OP Transport will be invested in the first diameter of the Sofia Subway “ Obelya RD – Lyulin RD – Centre – Mladost RD – Druzhba RD –Sofia Airport”. This was announced by minister Ivaylo Moskovski today, during the official launch of the construction.

“The program is moving forward with very good pace. This project gives completely different appearance of Sofia Airport, because, as connecting the airport with the metro lines and rest public transport network, the airport becomes new intermodal transport center”, Minister Moskovski stated. According to him the section from Druzhba RD –Sofia Airport  and from Mladost 1 to the Business park in Mladost 4 will be finished in the beginning of 2015.

“For the last 3 years we managed to build the whole metro line from Obelya RD to Lozenets RD, we also developed the first metro line and bought 18 new trains” said minister Moskovski. That’s why we receive the support of the European Commission and they use the construction of Sofia Subway as an example of a successful project.

This section of the first diameter is funded under Operational Program “Transport”. It will be 5 km long and will consist of 4 metro stations. It is divided into three positions, and the total amount of the contracts with the contractors amounts to BGN 136 million.
