Opportunities for revitalizing the economic relations between Bulgaria and Australia were reviewed

H.E. Alison Duncan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Australia to Athens, accredited to Bulgaria, visited the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and held a meeting with BCCI’s President Mr. Tsvetan Simeonov. The talks were also attended by Yoana Kehlibarova, President of the Bulgaria-Australia Business Council.

Discussions centered primarily on boosting bilateral trade and economic ties between Bulgaria and Australia, following the successful conclusion of the EU-Australia Free Trade Agreement negotiations. Ambassador Duncan noted that with negotiations wrapped up as of March 2026, the deal is now moving toward ratification—a milestone expected to open up new business horizons and drive trade between both countries.

During the meeting, the potential for cooperation in sectors such as the defense industry, green technologies, and innovation was discussed. Tsvetan Simeonov emphasized that the upcoming agreement would create a favorable framework for expanding partnerships between Bulgarian and Australian companies. He also presented the Chamber's business support activities, including the services provided through the BCCI Trade Register.

The two countries exchanged insights into their respective economic landscapes and evaluated paths for enhancing business relations.

During the meeting, an agreement was reached to organize a joint event, with the participation of the Australian Embassy and the Bulgaria-Australia Business Council, to present the benefits of the EU-Australia Free Trade Agreement, as well as concrete opportunities for developing bilateral economic cooperation.

BCCI will provide further details regarding the upcoming initiative in due course.
