National Action Plan for Renewable Energy

The National Action Plan for Renewable Energy covers the period 2010 - 2020, and includes targets for the production of electricity, heat and cooling energy and renewable energy in transport by 2020. To achieve the objectives, appropriate policies are provided and measures are adopted to promote the production of renewable energy while taking into account the impact of improved energy efficiency and the introduction of energy efficient technologies.

The objectives and sector trajectories of the share of renewable energy are defined. The established target for Bulgaria is 16% share of renewable energy in gross final energy consumption in 2020, and includes 20.8% share of electricity from renewable sources in gross final consumption of electricity in the country, 23.8% share of heating and cooling energy from renewable sources in gross final consumption of energy for heating and cooling, and 10.8% share of renewable energy consumption in the transport sector.

In addition to the sector targets for 2020, the respective trajectories of the use of renewable energy per year in the period 2010 to 2020 in each of these sectors are included.

The plan contains an assessment of the estimated total contribution of each technology for production of electricity from renewable resources to achieving the 2020 targets and the indicative trajectory of the share of renewable energy in electricity for the period 2010 to 2020, the estimated total contribution of each technology for heat and cooling energy from renewable resources by 2020 and the projected overall contribution of each technology for the production of renewable energy in the transport sector by 2020.
