Last week, a delegation from the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) visited Kuwait and held a meeting with the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) in Kuwait.
Mr. Tsvetan Simeonov, President of the BCCI, together with representatives of Bulgarian companies, met with Nasser Al Mutairi, Director of the Legal Department at Kuwait’s Public Authority for Manpower, and his team. The Authority is responsible for labor-related matters in Kuwait.
The hosts explained that the country attracts workers from a wide variety of sectors and regions. They shared best practices in hiring people from other countries, as well as in retaining them for the long term.
Simeonov noted that, in Bulgaria, workers from third countries currently come mainly from India, Nepal, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and others.
Al Mutairi shared that, according to statistical data, there are currently about 100 Bulgarian citizens working in Kuwait, although these numbers were much higher in past decades. The main profile of Bulgarians employed in the country includes highly educated professionals such as medical staff, teachers, and managerial personnel. There are only a few employed in construction and the service sector.
The BCCI President presented Bulgaria’s experience in hosting foreign students, who later develop professionally in Bulgaria and contribute to bilateral relations in various aspects – cultural, economic, investment, and more.
Participants in the meeting also discussed conditions for hiring employees on a “remote work” basis, which is increasingly relevant with the adoption of new technologies.
An active exchange of best practices between BCCI and the Kuwait Public Authority for Manpower was agreed upon.
