BCCI presented the “TOP 100” economic classification

An average growth of 146% of sales revenue in 2016 compared to 2015 of the top 100 fastest growing companies, showed the classification of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) TOP 100.

Positive trends are observed in the sector as a whole, emphasized the Chamber’s “Analyses” Department. The news from the Bulgarian economy is good once again, said the President of BCCI Tsvetan Simeonov. According to him, there is no better magnet for investors than the profit of competitors in a given country. The most prominent sectors of industry among the top 100 companies classified according to sales revenue are the production of machinery and equipment, the chemical industry, and the food industry. These are traditionally well-developed sectors in the country with good competitive positions compared to foreign companies, relying both on exports and the domestic market. By alteration of profit in 2016 compared to 2015, the top 50 companies have achieved an average growth of 359%.

This is the 19th edition of the classification, which is done by BCCI only on the basis of objective criteria and comparable data from the financial statements of companies. A total of 6400 companies from all regions of the country, producing 82% of the country’s GDP, are included in the classification.

Among the companies with the largest dynamics in turnover, the first place is occupied by the trade sector – 36% of the top 100 companies.

18% of the fastest growing companies are in the services sector. Construction has a 10% share among the top 100 companies, with a downward trend compared to last year’s classification – then 25% of the ranked were construction companies. Overall, the growth rate of the sector depends largely of public procurement and engagements of both large and smaller companies.

Transport companies have a 9% share in the classification, compared to 4% in the previous edition.

Their average profit in 2016 is BGN 3.7 million, the lowest being BGN 202 thousand, and the highest – BGN 36 million. The TOP 100 methodology includes only non-financial enterprises which ended 2016 with profit and sales revenue exceeding BGN 100 000 in 2015. Students from the trade high school in Sofia helped processed the data, for which they received diplomas by the President of BCCI Tsvetan Simeonov.
