BCCI Survey: Germany and Romania Top Destinations for Bulgarian Business Travel and International Partnerships
Germany and Romania are the most popular destinations for Bulgarian business travel and international partnerships, according to a recent survey by the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI). The survey, conducted from March 5–13, 2026, involved 75 companies and reached over 6,000 respondents through the Chamber’s communication channels.
Despite geopolitical and economic uncertainties, 30.7% of respondents plan to increase their foreign business trips in 2026, while 26.7% will travel for shorter periods and 22.7% anticipate reducing trips.
The survey also highlighted key forms of cooperation with foreign partners: 54.7% of companies are focused on exporting goods, 41.3% on exchanging best practices, and 35% on innovation opportunities. Trade fairs remain the most preferred method for establishing business contacts (60%), closely followed by B2B meetings (54.7%). Digital platforms and professional networks are gaining popularity, with 53.3% of respondents using online tools such as LinkedIn, B2B platforms, and virtual events to reach potential partners.
In terms of destinations, Germany and Romania lead at 37% each, followed by Turkiye (35%), Switzerland (31%), and Italy (24%). The survey notes that Romania’s popularity has increased from 32% in 2025, while Turkiye remains strategic due to its geographic position connecting Europe and Asia. Other preferred countries include the UK, Norway, China, Greece, Serbia, Egypt, South Africa, Sweden, Japan, and Austria.
Sector-wise, Bulgarian businesses are most interested in partnerships within machinery and equipment (29.6%), food and beverages (23.9%), and food services (16.9%). Additionally, 31% of firms expressed interest in training on foreign trade and banking practices to support successful international operations.
The survey emphasized that trade fairs and targeted B2B meetings remain the most effective ways for Bulgarian companies to establish new partnerships and stay competitive in global markets.
