Specific Opportunities for Strengthening Economic Relations with Armenia were Discussed in Two Meetings This Week
The opportunities for strengthening the economic relations with Armenia were discussed in a meeting between our Chamber President Tsvetan Simeonov and Nikola Nikolov, Bulgaria’s Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador in the Republic of Armenia. Agriculture and the food and beverage industry were cited as prospective sectors for partnership. At the same time, attention was drawn to the existence of market niches for Bulgarian products in the Armenian market, including tomato and pepper puree (the so-called ‘lyutenitsa’), milk products, textiles and fashionable ready-made series-production clothes, among others.
During the meeting, Ambassador Nikolov also emphasised the significant potential for developing tourism between the two countries, pointing out the lack of a direct air lane and the need for more active advertising of Bulgarian resorts as the main challenges to expanding the tourist exchange.
Some initiatives to increase the bilateral cooperation between Bulgaria and Armenia were also the topic of an online meeting with Karen Ivanov, Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Armenia. The meeting was initiated on the part of Armenia and aimed to discuss the establishment of a more regular exchange of information regarding the business and investment opportunities between the two Chambers.
The parties also discussed the forthcoming session of the Bulgarian-Armenian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, which is expected to take place in the second half of 2026 in the city of Yerevan, as well as the opportunities for more active engagement of businesses in this process.
In this connection, the parties considered the issue for updating the Cooperation Agreement, signed between the two Chambers, as well as for creating a joint Bulgarian-Armenian Business Council.
