Borovets will officially open the ski season on December 27 with a celebration marking the 130th anniversary of the founding of Bulgaria’s—and the Balkans’—first mountain resort, the Municipality of Samokov and Borosport announced. The event will launch a yearlong series of initiatives in 2026 under the motto "130 Years of Borovets: Legendary Past, Boundless Future".
Throughout the day, children’s lift passes will cost BGN 1, while all other day and night passes will be half-price. Borosport’s ski and snowboard school will offer free group lessons and equipment for 130 beginner children who register in advance. The program on the plaza in front of the Rila Hotel will include games, demonstrations by the Mountain Rescue Service, workshops for children, a mini slalom with ski legend Petar Popangelov, freestyle snowboard shows, and performances on the Iglika slope.
A treasure hunt, a Snow Bar, an AI photo corner, and a raffle with hundreds of prizes - including a season pass and hotel weekend vouchers - are also planned. The official ceremony will take place at 16:30 with local officials and Borosport representatives, followed by a laser show, torchlight descent, LED ski show, and a concert by the band Molec.
The year of the anniversary will feature additional events, festivals, and upgrades aimed at further modernizing the resort and promoting it as a year-round destination.
