Bulgaria Ranks Second among EU Member States in Growth in Production in Construction in January, Y/Y
Bulgaria recorded EU's second-highest annual increase (4%) in seasonally adjusted production in construction in January 2026, show Eurostat data published here on March 19. This country was second only to Slovenia (11.6%) while Denmark ranked third with 3.3%.
On average, the annual production in construction decreased by 1.9% in the euro area and by 2.0% in the EU. Among Member States for which data are available, the largest annual decreases in production in construction were recorded in Poland (11.0%), Spain (9.9%) and Hungary (9.5%).
Compared with December 2025, Bulgaria recorded a 1.2% decrease. The largest decreases in the EU were recorded in Poland (9%), Hungary (8.8%) and Slovakia (5.4%). Three Member States showed monthly increase in production in construction - Germany with 2.9%, the Netherlands with 0.4% and Denmark with 0.2%.
Monthly Comparison by Construction Sector
In the euro area in January 2026, compared with December 2025, production in construction decreased by 3.0% for construction of buildings and by 4.4% for civil engineering. It increased by 1.7% for specialized construction activities.
In the EU, production in construction decreased by 3.8% for construction of buildings and by 4.5% for civil engineering. It increased by 0.4% for specialized construction activities.

In the euro area in January 2026, compared with January 2025, production in construction decreased by 8.9% for construction of buildings and by 4.2% for civil engineering. It increased by 1.1% for specialized construction activities.
In the EU, production in construction decreased by 8.4% for construction of buildings and by 4.6% for civil engineering. It increased by 0.7% for specialized construction activities.
