Bulgaria's unemployment rate in 2022 was 4.3%


Bulgaria's unemployment rate in 2022 was 4.3% (4.5% for men and 4.1% for women), down by 1 percentage point from 2021, according to the results of a Labour Force Survey (LFS) reported by the National Statistical Institute (NSI).

In 2022, the number of economically active population aged 15-64 was 3,191,200 and represented 73.6% of population in the same age group. Compared with 2021, the activity rate increased by 1.6 percentage points.

The number of employed persons aged 15-64 was 3,053,300. The employment rate for the same age group was 70.4% (73.8% for men and 66.8% for women). Compared with 2021, this rate increased by 2.3 percentage points.

The LFS is a continuous sample survey providing quarterly and annual data on the economic activity of the population aged 15 and over. The survey covers 196,000 non-institutional households. The households participating in the survey were randomly selected and were interviewed through a face-to-face interview.
