Qatar is interested in investing in transport infrastructure, energy, and agriculture


Sheikh Faisal Bin Saud Al-Thani, Head of Business Development at Qatar Investment Authority, stated interest in investing in transport infrastructure, energy, and agriculture. Representatives of the Qatar Investment Authority spoke on 18 May with Prime Minister Borissov and cabinet ministers, who were in Doha on an official visit.

During the talks, Qatar confirmed its interest in operating a direct Doha-Varna air route. A Qatari delegation is expected to visit Bulgaria to examine specific opportunities for development of the Port of Varna. Qatar is also interested in carrying out training and experience exchange with Bulgarian air traffic management experts.

With regard to agriculture, the State of Qatar expressed interest in importing lamb and veal. Bulgarian production is appealing because it is biologically clean, GMO free, it emerged at the meeting. Hassad Food is a public company established by the Qatar Investment Authority, with which possibilities to export Bulgarian agricultural products to the Qatari market are being discussed.

Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Lilyana Pavlova presented the vertical transport corridor Istanbul- Bulgaria-Romania. The construction of the Ruse-Svilengrad road was discussed and both countries declared their interest in building the route.
