Members of the Bulgarian government meet with a World Bank team to discuss partnership opportunities for the next five years

Members of the Bulgarian government and World Bank leaders and experts discussed partnership opportunities for the next five years.

The meeting was attended by the four Deputy Prime Ministers and the Ministers of Regional Development and Public Works, Environment and Water, Transport, Information Technology and Communications, Agriculture and Food, Health, Justice, and Finance. The World Bank team, led by Regional Director for Central Europe and the Baltic Countries Mamta Murthi and Permanent Representative of the World Bank for Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia Tony Thompson, discussed ways in which the international financial institution can support Bulgaria in its efforts to achieve sustainable growth and convergence with EU living standards.

Participants in the meeting discussed policy ideas to achieve rapid, inclusive and sustainable growth by improving the business environment, infrastructure measures, and investment in the workforce.  Preserving the macroeconomic and social stability in the country was highlighted as key factor for achieving sustainable growth. 

The main World Bank findings on the conditions and prerequisites for sustainable growth in Bulgaria will be summarized in the Bulgaria Systematic Country Diagnostic report. The report is currently being finalized and is due to be published in the coming weeks.
