The amount of electricity that Bulgaria exports nowadays has reached 1600 megawatts per hour. This is a times more than the exported electricity in May 2013, when an hourly average of 128 megawatts per hour was achieved. Only for three days of August (4, 5 and 6 August) a quantity of 94 000 MWh has been exported as electricity as per the whole month of May – 95 500. Thermal power plants in daylight loaded nearly 2 600 megawatts per hour. Their evening electricity production quantity exceeds 3 000 megawatts per hour. The peak load of the power system occurs between the hours of 13.00 and 15.00 pm under the influence of high temperatures and the need for air conditioning. Upon expert evaluation their installed capacity is about 500 MW.
The total production of electricity from thermal power plants as of 6th August was 68,000 MWh. This led to an increase in the coal production in the country reaching values of over 75 000 tons only for 6th August, which is a good amount for the summer months.
Thanks to changes in the Energy Act these highs are a fact.
